I should have spent less time procrastinating and gotten to work on quilting the Easy Street quilt sooner because now I won't make it before the end of the month. I definitely underestimated how long this quilting project would take.
Each row took about 60 minutes to stitch out and then about 20 more to forward the quilt and re-align each row. There are eight rows. I started before Thanksgiving but didn't get back to it until this morning. I thought I would have been able to finish today, but then I lost at backing chicken. I expected it would be close, but I would make it. Sadly, not.Fixing this is not an end-of-day project, I'd end up staying up too late. I'll have to figure out how to finish this tomorrow morning.Saturday, November 30, 2024

July One Monthly Goal
I keep trying to kickstart my Quilting Mojo and it just hasn't worked. I think I'm weighed down by the unfinished projects cluttering up my quilting studio so it's time to finish some of them. So, for my July One Monthly Goal, I'd like to finish binding the four quilts that are sitting in a pile waiting.

Rose Lane Quilted
Just as June is coming to an end, I've managed to wrap up my One Monthly Goal! Taking inspiration from the floral theme and the original pattern name, I've decided to name this creation "Rose Lane". The pattern, Diamond Lane, was a free one from Wilmington. Although I made adjustments to the size of the blocks and the border, the final quilt still holds true to the spirit of the original pattern. This was my focus for June's One Monthly Goal.
I used a variety of rose and garden theme pantographs to quilt it. I'll go ahead and list them here for reference.
Donna Kleinke, One Song Needle Arts
Carmen's Roses Block
Carmen's Roses Border
Carmen's Roses Frame 2-Quarter
Carmen's Roses Motif (with an edit to add extra leaves)
Wind Dance Sash
Darlene Epp
Patricia Ritter
Rosebud Border (free right now)
Rosebud Border Corner (free right now)
The batting was the last bit of Hobbs Heirloom 80-20 batting. And I used Madeira Aeroquilt Red #8380 thread.
All in all, I'm thrilled to have reached my goal for the month, and I'm even more thrilled with the final outcome of Rose Lane. The floral patterns truly bring it to life, and I'm eager to start on my next project!

Jun Friday Night w/Friends
My jump into the project experienced a bit of turbulence when I realized my original plan would result in a whopping 99" square quilt! With my 10-foot long arm frame, that size is nothing short of a hassle – imagine wrangling a bulky quilt onto the frame with the long arm in your way. Plus, I don't really have a need for another queen-size bed quilt. So, I decided to downsize.
I devoted 3 to 4 hours to tinkering with different options to trim it down: eliminating rows of blocks, reworking the border, you name it. None of them hit the mark. For a fleeting moment, I even considered changing the pattern entirely. Ultimately, I decided to simply reduce the block size from 6" to a more manageable 4.5".
Of course, this meant all the effort I'd put into devising a Cricut cutting plan had to be scrapped and reworked, leading to a bit more delay. But, after some adjustments, I finally started making headway.
Progress was slower than anticipated, but hey, at least it's a start!
Here's a snapshot of my chosen fabrics. The lighting isn't the best, but they look delightful.
During my reshuffling of the plan, I reworked the colors. Originally, I had a rust tone in the mix, but it didn't gel with the rest of the fabrics upon a closer look. So, I brought in these rosy hues from my stash, which harmonize perfectly.
Usually, I wouldn't cut out squares with my Cricut, but with the resized blocks, some squares landed at rather awkward dimensions.
Here's the fruit of last night's labor. I'm eager to carry on with the project today. My goal is to complete these checkerboard squares and the nine patches. Then, come next week, I can dive into the sashing and border units.

June One Monthly Goal
Sure, there's the Easy Street quilt that I prepped a couple of months ago. But, I ran into a little hiccup; it turns out, I made the blocks larger than the original pattern. Now, I'm in a bit of a pickle – do I go ahead with the supersized blocks, or do I take the extra step to trim them down to the size that Bonnie Hunter had in mind?
Instead of dwelling on that conundrum, I've decided to shift gears and dive into my Diamond Lane quilt using the Farmhouse Chic fabrics. These were an impromptu pandemic clearance fabric binge, and it feels good to finally put them to use.
Today, I've been knee-deep in creating the Cricut fabric-cutting files. Cutting out triangles isn't my favorite pastime, and this quilt demands plenty of them. But come tomorrow, during our Friday Night With Friends, I'm aiming to kick off the cutting stage.
So, what's my game plan for the month? My sights are set on finishing the quilt flimsy. Quilting it completely would be a bonus, but I'll be perfectly content if I manage to put the finishing touch on the flimsy.

Flower Paths Finished (Nearly)!
As usual, it still needs a label and to be bound, but the quilting has been finished and I've trimmed off the excess. I tend to let a few quilts pile up because it is more efficient to make multiple quilt labels at once. I'm happy to get this one done before the end of the month, as this was my one monthly goal.
I initially played with an intricate design where I quilted all the blocks individually, but I struggled to come up with a good design for the borders so I decided done was better and settled for an edge-to-edge design. I used Christy Dillon's Garden Fairies pantograph that I purchased during their last sale. (I bought so many great patterns from them recently, it was difficult to choose which one to use.)
I used Quilter's Dream Green batting for this quilt; it is my batting of choice because it is made from 100% recycled bottles. And I used inexpensive Maxi-Lock serger thread in dark purple because I've had good success with it.
I designed this pattern in Electric Quilt and I used fabrics already in my stash. I'm really trying not to buy any more fabric this year. I'm quite happy with how well this project turned out.

Pieces of My Heart Finished
I've finished it! This is the Pieces of my Heart quilt I designed and finished for the Tickled Pink blog hop last year. I still need to make a label and bind it, but I did finish the quilting, which was my one monthly goal.
I spent way too long obsessing about the quilting pattern to use on this quilt, but finally I just stitched out the design my husband liked best.
For the batting, I used Quilter's Dream Green (again); this is my go-to batting because it is made from 100% recycled bottles. I didn't use fancy threads on this project, just some dark purple MaxiLock serger thread and red Madiera AeroQuilt thread.
This is the quilt design I ended up using.
I actually created a number of these pieces from purchased pantographs. I started with the Ironworks Border 3 by Celine Spader and I took a portion of it and created the octagon, the square corner block and the diamond shape. (Have I mentioned how much I love my ProStitcher Studio software?)And I used the Sweet to the Core melon block from Quiltable and took off the rounded outline border and used it for the diamonds and then created a four-pointed piece for the Amethyst block.
Finally, I used the Welcome Spring sashing by Darlene Epp, with a small edit, to fill the space between the blocks and border.Considering how wonky this quilt was, I am quite happy with how it turned out. I did learn some good lessons which I hope to remember for next time, like I wish I had basted down some of the seams because it created some extra fullness having them flipping back and forth under the seams.
Update a couple days later: It's finished!!

Tuesday ToDo #66
As planned, I spent the past week trying to come up with a quilting design for my Pieces of My Heart quilt. I've made a number of them so far, and I haven't really been happy with any of them.
I also had a rush quilting job over the weekend, but since it's a gift, I don't think I should show a photo. I doubt the recipient follows this blog, but it's not a quilt I made. It was a straight-forward edge-to-edge design along with sewing on the binding.
Today, I'm back playing with my quilting design. I'm currently trying to make the appropriate shapes by taking elements from pantographs I like.
I'll probably play with it for another week and then I'll make myself choose one and start stitching it. I don't want to wait until the end of the month again.

March One Monthly Goal
I did manage to finish my February OMG but I didn't get it posted in time to link up. Oh well.
For my March One Monthly Goal, I am hoping to finish quilting my Pieces of My Heart lap quilt. I am hoping to quilt it with octagonal blocks, and not just an edge-to-edge design. The diamond and octagon shapes should be a new challenge for me.
I have a couple of design ideas started, but now I'll need to come up with a final design by the end of the month.Wednesday, March 1, 2023
Finger Lakes Quilted!
Well, mostly finished; it still needs the binding. Most of the time on this one was the planning. I spent several days playing with a more-complicated design but in the end, I wasn't sure I'd be able to stitch accurately enough that it would look good, so I decided to use a less precise layout. The quilting itself took me several days to finish, but I'm happy with how it turned out. It's definitely been worth the effort.
This is the Finger Lakes log cabin pattern designed by Judy Martin. I made mine really scrappy with lots of fabrics from my stash and scrap bin. I used Quilter's Dream Green batting. I used Glide thread in the Raisin color, though I rather wish I'd also purchased a creamy yellow thread as well for the burgundy-colored areas so the quilting would show up better.
I quilted it with the Trellis set of pantographs designed by Karen Thompson. I also made a few other custom pieces by editing the pantographs. I created a long scalloped border piece by taking a quarter of the block, mirroring it, and repeating it. It looked perfect with the scalloped border design. I also created the straight border and circular corners from the leafy swag piece.
The blocks themselves quilted pretty quickly, but I spent quite a lot of time filling in all those partial shapes around the edge. This finishes up my February One Monthly Goal, though one day late. I forgot February was a short month. Now I need to figure out my project for March.

Lake Cabin Quilted
I've been a little distracted the past couple of weeks and before that, I spent at least two weeks ironing fabric so my productivity has not been that great this year, so far. But my workspace is way cleaner and I don't feel so cramped in my sewing room.
I finally needed a break from ironing fabric and for last week's Friday Night Sew-In, I finished putting on the border and quilting the Lake Cabin scrappy quilt. This pattern was designed by Kim Brackett, from her Scrap Basket Sensations book.
I quilted it with the Crystal Gem pantograph which came with my ProStitcher software and is available from Quilting Daily. The pattern had a lot of backtracking and it didn't match up as perfectly as I would like, but it looked good with this border fabric.I used four different 80-20 cotton-poly scraps for the batting. I used the trick where you just keep adding pieces, as shown in this video.
And today, I finally got my Finger Lakes Log Cabin quilt on my quilting frame.
Now I just need to get brave enough to start. I published my quilting plan several days ago.
My plan for the week is to work on this quilt until it is finished.
